Sudafed Makes You Crazy (and Other Announcements)

So this morning I got a phone call at 11:40 a.m. (and I was still sleeping) from a number that I didn't recognize. Turns out it was my old housemate from senior year telling me that she's engaged (and I hadn't heard from her in 2.5 years).

So I fear that the rain of long-term relationship has started (or is that "reign"? Hmmm....) for my actual peer group. But congrats to her anyway. Promises (and new bling!) are always exciting.

And back to the tagline, Sudafed makes ME crazy. This is because it's basically adrenaline in pill form. And while Sudafed will decongest ears (which I need desperately because we're on week 5 of pseudo-deafness), it will make you nuts.

That is all.

BabyFest '06

Sunday I went to Sophia's 100-day party. Sophia is the daughter of my cousin Sam, and technically is my cousin once removed, but that makes her sound like a wart, so I like to say cousin. (I never remember if it's second cousin or cousin once removed...I always say, "Removed from what?")

More recently the Clan (what we call my mother's side of the fam), has been procreating like it's a contest, along with all of their friends. So I got to see the Blog Lord and Lady with the new addition to their family: Eleanor.

The Blog Lord's got a new blog on his adventures as a new dad, which is entertaining (pics and all), but please click the link and tell him to return to Osnapville, since it's turning into the equivalent of a dilapidated shantytown. Remember: Osnap ROCKS. And when I win the Pulitzer, it will acquire international fame and put their little Blog-cess on the map to stardom.

Back to the shindig...Sophia is way cute (as with all the Clan babies), but it's so weird holding her since she looks exactly like my cousin Sam who's got 10+ years on me. So it's like holding mini-Sam. In female form. Weird.

The best part of the night was when Jin decided to hold Sophia. In the interval where I ran for the camera (I mean, Jin holding a baby is like Haley's comet crashing into the Sun--never happens and should be photographed when it does), she managed to spit up ALL OVER him. Without him noticing.

Next week, I've got another 100-day shindig--good thing I get that employee discount.

*Twitch*

Today I had to take off from work, due to a pesky eye twitch and general fatigue from the last three weeks of really bad sleep and the stress of The Project From The Abyss.

While I survived The Boss From The Abyss for 15+ months, The Project From The Abyss is starting to make her look like a Care Bear next to, say, Hannibal Lecter. I didn't think it could be worse unless someone started pistol-whipping me on a daily basis, but I guess I was wrong.

So, for the last week or so I've been nursing a persistent right eye twitch, which I managed to develop in the last year or so of working late and weekends. It would appear occasionally, and then maybe only every hour or so on days that it showed up to work. Monday I went into work and this bugger started up every 5 minutes...on the train. I wasn't even at WORK yet.

And for the rest of the week, it just got worse--Tuesday it felt like my twitch had gotten it's own twitch. And by the end of the day, it was like my lower lid was having epileptic fits on my face. Not attractive.

What's even funnier (or sadder, you decide), is that on Wednesday, it started to twitch every time I thought of something I needed to do...I need to write that vendor back *TWITCH*...oh, I need to submit that invoice for-- *TWITCH*...crap, I didn't get to read those lay--*TWITCHTWITCHTWITCH*. It would also set off whenever I found a mistake while reading book layouts--which makes it hard, you know, to be an editor.

So this morning, I got up, showered, put on clothes, totally got ready to go to work, and then it happened. My LIP twitched.

And that, my friends, is when I called in sick.

On Having A Social Life

I'm ridiculously tired. Here's why:

Tuesday (7/18): Dinner with a friend where we drank a HUGE bowl (or bucket) of makgulli (technically unfiltered rice wine) along with some great Korean food. After a crappy two weeks of non-sleep and emotional turmoil, this was what the doctor ordered.

Wednesday (7/19): Good-bye party at Sweet and Vicious for two co-workers--pretty good sapphire and tonics (they were twice the normal size). Lots of fun--haven't drank much with work friends since I stopped working for the Boss from the Abyss.

Friday (7/21): Friends in from Ohio/Chicago, shot some pool, then stayed up till 4:30 am playing cards and talking. Had to get up at 7:30 to see them off, so it was a little painful.

Sunday (7/23): Day at the beach with the small group where there were three rounds of beach volleyball (and subsequently spent most of the time on my face). Went to 5:45 service at church, then headed over to a CD release party at 7:30 pm in West Village.

Hence, my stressed-out eye twitch is more like seizures on the right size of my face than small tics. *This looks like an awesome week.

You Are So Beautiful and I Am So Dorky

I saw this card with this line at Kate's Paperie the other day--privately, I think that every girl should get this card from a boy at some point in their life. (Boys, you can all start lining up now.)

These past few weeks have been hard--just all these issues with myself that I thought had tied down. Right when you think you're OK, something comes along that unbalances your small universe.

It's odd to feel that you've been so far away from God and then to wake up one day and discover that you're actually listening and doing the insane things He's telling you to do.

Heppie Burfday

Happy b-day to one of the prettiest, funniest, and smartest women I know--she's saying "so long!" to being a teenager today. My little sister! Happy 20th!

More Summer Insomnia

After four days of bad, bad sleep, I feel like Bruce Banner ten minutes before he turns into the Hulk. Or at least, I imagine this groggy, perma-migraine is what you get before you quadruple your body mass and turn a wicked shade of green.

Summer Insomnia Strikes Again

Around 3:00 am this morning I was awakened by a stack of GRE vocabulary cards falling...and landing on my head. Luckily, it wasn't the whole box (because I'd be in a coma right now).

I've never figured out what I should do when it hits--usually I just grab a book and sit up to read. But it always feels like I'm letting it win, whatever "it" is.

Lots of things on my mind lately, the subjects never change.
